The Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia held an extended-format meeting with members of the Business Association of Georgia.
The meeting was opened with welcoming remarks by the President of the Business Association, Mr Soso Phkhakadze, and the President of the Personal Data Protection Service, Dr Dr Lela Janashvili.
Dr Dr Lela Janashvili emphasized the importance of cooperation with the private sector and stated that the goal of Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia is to introduce high standards for the protection of individuals’ rights regarding their personal data. For this purpose, the Service is actively carrying out consultations and trainings.
“Our main priority is to ensure that data processing fully complies with the requirements of the law, while at the same time guaranteeing maximum protection of data subjects’ rights. Accordingly, we provide the private sector with different forms of assistance and practical consultations,” said Dr Dr Lela Janashvili.
During the meeting, the Head of President’s Cabinet of the PDPS, Mr. Nikoloz Popiashvili, presented in detail the consulting services provided by the Service to both individuals and organizations. These include telephone consultations, in-person meetings with lawyers and the Data Protection Officer, regional trainings, and more.
In addition, the Head of President’s Cabinet of the PDPS introduced an innovative online platform - the “Digital Advisor,” which supports organizations in developing practical guideline recommendations based on their specific needs. The purpose of the “Digital Advisor” is to assist the private sector in regulating the main legal aspects of data processing. Mr Nikoloz Popiashvili also spoke about the guideline recommendations developed by the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia, which are available on the Service’s official website.
During the second segment of the meeting, Mr. Shavleg Todua, Acting Head of the Private Sector Oversight Department, explained to the Association members the obligation under Article 28 of Georgia’s Law on Personal Data Protection, covering the registration of data processing activities and the proper documentation of these processes.
At the end of the meeting, a question-and-answer session and discussion were held.
Around 100 members of the Business Association attended the event.
